NACE & Icorr Level 3 Inspection

The highest level of in-house coating inspection qualification — for complete confidence in every protective coating we apply

The Highest Standard Of Coating Inspection

Wicked Coatings offers the highest levels of quality and inspection for protective coatings. As a specialist coating provider to a variety of industries, we are committed to producing the best quality protective coating, regardless of how harsh the environment.

With in-house inspectors trained to NACE and Icorr Level 3 — the highest level of coating inspection certification — the standard of knowledge and work delivered by Wicked Coatings is second to none. Every project is inspected by certified professionals, coating systems are verified against specification at every stage, and environmental conditions are monitored and documented throughout.

Having this capability in-house — rather than relying on external inspection services — means faster turnaround, lower costs and tighter quality control for our clients. Non-conformances are identified and resolved before dispatch, and detailed inspection records, environmental logs and test certificates accompany every job.

NACE & Icorr Level 3 In Detail

NACE Level 3

Independently certified

NACE Level 3 is the highest level of coating inspector qualification awarded by NACE International (now AMPP — the Association for Materials Protection and Performance). Our certified inspector holds demonstrated competence in specification writing and review, coating system selection for aggressive service environments, failure investigation and root cause analysis, quality management of large coating programmes, and expert witness capability where disputes or claims arise. With this level of in-house expertise, we can advise on the most appropriate coating systems for demanding environments, identify potential issues before they become problems, and provide authoritative inspection reports that satisfy the most rigorous client requirements.

Icorr Level 3

Independently certified

The Institute of Corrosion (ICorr) Level 3 certification demonstrates advanced competence in corrosion engineering and protective coating technology. This qualification covers the underlying science of corrosion mechanisms, the design and selection of protective coating systems across a wide range of environments and substrates, cathodic protection principles, and environmental control strategies. With this level of expertise on our team, we provide technically informed recommendations on coating system design, expected service life and long-term maintenance strategies — going far beyond simple paint application to deliver genuine corrosion protection engineering for our clients.

How We Apply Level 3 Inspection

1
description

Specification Review

Our Level 3 inspector reviews the client specification before work commences, identifying the coating system, inspection hold points, acceptance criteria and documentation requirements, and raising any technical queries with the client up-front.

2

Substrate Verification

Surface cleanliness and profile are verified against the specification using replica tape, cleanliness comparators and contamination spot testing. Work does not proceed until the substrate is signed off as meeting the stated standard.

3
thermostat

Environmental Control

Temperature, relative humidity and dew point are logged before and during coating application. Application is halted if environmental conditions fall outside the ranges stated by the coating manufacturer or the specification.

4

Application Witnessing

Wet film thickness, mix ratios, pot life and application parameters are verified during application. Batch numbers of every coating product used are recorded against the job for full material traceability.

5

Cured Film Testing

Once cured, dry film thickness is measured across the coated surface in accordance with the specification. Adhesion is verified by cross-hatch or pull-off testing, and gloss, colour and cosmetic acceptance criteria are checked.

Certification Pack

A full certification pack is compiled and signed by our Level 3 inspector: DFT readings, adhesion results, environmental logs, material batch records and any additional tests required by the specification.
